My Story in Numbers
Soumalya's Techniques and innovations
To create melodious and euphonic sound Soumalya is continuing his experiment with both the ‘Gayaki Anga’ and ‘Tantrakari Anga’ which has made Indian slide guitar as tantamount with the other Classical Instruments.
Soumalya has innovated some new right hand techniques in his playing style. The main bol of ‘ Tantrakari ‘ are ‘ Da ‘ and ‘ Ra ‘. Instead of using thumb as ‘ Da ‘ and index finger as ‘ Ra ‘, Soumalya has reverse this pattern to create more melodious sound and speed. Along with these he also uses index and middle finger as ‘ Da ‘ and ‘ Ra ‘ respectively. The another unique technique of his playing is that he can play all the three finger at a time when needed. In ‘ Jhaala Anga’ he uses ‘Sitarkhani Baj’ technique. Soumalya is also doing experiment with ‘ Meend Khandi Taan'( Ustad Amir Khan Style),which is very unique in Indian Slide classical Guitar. Along with these right hand techniques Soumalya also has innovated very rare left hand technique to create harmonious and melodious slide sound.
